How did Carlos come to America?
Carlos hitchhiked from Peru to the United States. He departed on April 10 , 1963, eventually arriving in the U.S.A. on March 29, 1964. His route was through the countries of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, San Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and the U.S.A.

Why did Carlos come to the US?
He wanted to dance in the US and entertain people.

How did Carlos learn English?
Before coming to the United States Carlos knew no English. He learned English by listening to people talk and through working various jobs where the co-workers and customers spoke only English. After 4 months in the states he learned around 200 English words. Even though Carlos attempted to take formal English classes, after being frustrated he left the classes. So for the most part he is self-taught through practice, watching movies and television. Carlos practices reading and writing and enjoys learning new things all the time. Carlos also enjoys typing and sending emails to his friends.

Once Carlos got to the states, did he travel or settle?
Carlos traveled for a while with friends before settling.

Where has Carlos lived?
While traveling around with friends, Carlos has been to and lived in several places in the States including Dallas Texas, Oklahoma, Santa Anna CA, Las Vegas NV, Seattle WA. Vancouver Wa. and then finally settling in Portland, Oregon. He decided he liked Oregon the best so he settled down there in 1966. He considers Portland Oregon his home.

What kind of work has Carlos done?
Carlos has worked various odd jobs including working for 'Mexico City' & 'Chico' restaurants in Dallas Texas, and a lumber company, etc until discovering his main career as a mechanic for the railroad. He started with the Burlington Northern Railroad Company in 1969 when he was 28 years old. He began as a general laborer and then became a mechanic apprentice, eventually becoming a mechanic. Carlos retired from the railroad in 1999.

Has Carlos ever been married?
Carlos got married in 1972 when he was age 31 to a woman named Pamela. The marriage lasted for 7 years. Carlos and his wife Pamela had two boys from that marriage. Their son's names are Adrian and Damion Valencia.

What about grandchildren and other family members?
Carlos' son Damion has four children now: Katlyn & Alicia from a former marriage and two new twin girls (Sept. '05) with his current wife Renee: Daphne Jade Valencia and Kennedy Corrine Valencia.

Carlos' son Adrian has fathered Adrian junior, thus giving Carlos 5 grandchildren now.

What kind of hobbies does Carlos have?
Carlos enjoys bowling, playing pool, watching television, watching DVD's and VHS movies at home, going to the movie theatre, surfing the internet on his webtv and especially going dancing! Carlos keeps himself busy with all the things he does.

Arnold Schwarzenegger - congratulations on your governorship! (Carlos met Arnold in person in the 70's at a book signing.), Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris, Cynthia Rothrock, Sylvester Stallone, Frankie Avalon, Jackie Chan, Eddie Murphy, Jean Claude VanDamme, Bruce Lee, Bolo Yeung, Steven Seagall and last but not least, Elvis Presley. Carlos is grateful of the fact that he had the opportunity of meeting Frankie Avalon in the 70's. He also met and shook hands with Clint Eastwood in 1978, and he met Bolo Yeung on a movie set through a translator in 1990. Being a movie buff, Carlos has collected over a thousand VHS movies and over 500 DVD's - and the numbers keep growing week by week. 32 movies of his collection are Elvis Presley movies. Carlos also likes to tape talk shows, TV movies and soap operas.

When did Carlos become interested in dancing?
At age 9 Carlos remembers dancing at a birthday party for his mom. He learned how to dance by watching people and experimenting. Carlos prefers going out dancing to anything else.

How often does Carlos go dancing?
In the 70's, Carlos used to go dancing about 4 or 5 times a week. Nowadays, he still goes dancing up to 5 nights a week and at least three times a week.

When Carlos goes dancing, how long does he actually stay out dancing?
Carlos dances anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, 3 times a week. Carlos is age 65. So while most people his age are at home in bed sleeping, Carlos is out dancing 2 to 3 hours a night, three nights a week. Most people consider this to be amazing!

What are some of the clubs Carlos has been dancing at?
Carlos has been dancing in the Portland metro area for over 36 years and has danced at many clubs, some of which do not exist today. In the 70's he danced at Division Street Corral (otherwise known as 'D' Street. Other clubs he has danced in were Chevy's, Earthquake Ethel's, The Great Gatsby, Carmen Restaurant & Bar, The Inferno, The Keyhole, Stewart Andersons Cattle Company, The Copper Penny, The Refectory, The Ram, Flirts at the Holiday Inn, Lucky's Bar & Grill in Gresham, Dukes Bar & Grill, Who Song & Larry's (Portland) & H2O along with GK's Bar & Grill and Bobby McGees in Vancouver, Washington . Carlos danced at a club in Houston, Texas in 1985 called Bentley's. Carlos has also danced at Bananna Joes and Barracuda in downtown Portland. In February of 1992, Carlos danced at The New York Club in Cairns, Australia. In Mexico Carlos has danced in Carlos O'Brians, Senior Frogs, Andale. In Peru he danced in De Parranda Show Bar in Lima Peru. In September 05, Carlos had a great time dancing up a storm at Mt. Angel Oktoberfest.

Where does Carlos dance nowadays?
When Carlos is in town (Portland, Oregon) he enjoys dancing at various clubs in the Portland metro area. Carlos can usually be seen at The Refectory on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as weekend evenings. He usually shows up between 10:30 and 11 pm. Be on the lookout for Carlos. You may see him out dancing at a nightclub near you!

When Carlos Dances, does he like to compete with other dancers?
Carlos realizes he's not the best dancer in the world. However, he always strives to do his best. When Carlos Dances, he doesn't compete with anybody. He simply dances because he loves dancing and he loves to perform for people.

What motivates Carlos to work so hard and dance so hard?
Carlos puts himself fully into everything he does. He dances hard because he loves his first country (Peru) and his second country (US). He wants to make Peru proud and he's thankful to the US for giving him a chance to live, work and dance here.

What dancers does Carlos respect and admire?
Carlos likes the dancing of Fred Astire, Michael Jackson, John Travolta and Elvis Presley.

How long Has Carlos been Dancing?
Carlos has been dancing in the Portland area for over 39 years. Many of the kids he dances with nowadays could very well be the children of the parents whom he could have danced with 20 to 30 years ago. (If you know Carlos now, ask your parents if they've heard of and danced with Carlos).

What type of music does Carlos dance to?
Carlos will usually dance to any music that has a good dance beat - hip hop, R & B, techno and even country music. We've even seen him dance to the polka at Mt. Angel Oktoberfest. Where he danced for some 6000 people.

What is Carlos' favorite song?
Carlos enjoys the song 'Disco Inferno' by The Trammps, the extended remix version. When he makes guest appearances, Carlos usually wants to dance to this song.

What about Vacations?
Carlos likes to travel. One place he enjoys going to is Carlos O'Brian's and Senior Frogs nightclubs in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Carlos started vacationing in Mexico in 1987 and has been back several times since then. He enjoys the fact that there people come from all over the world.

What about Carlos' hair? Is it real?
The hair on Carlos' head is 100% real. No transplants, no toupee, no men's club. Also, even though he has a sprinkle of gray, he does NOT color his hair. The color is natural. His hair is his own and grows very fast. He needs a haircut as often as once every month and a half.

Does Carlos allow people to dance with him?
Yes. Carlos enjoys it when people want to dance with him. Girls are welcome to dance 'couples style' with Carlos. Guys can dance near Carlos, but not too close.

How many moves does Carlos have in his dancing?
Carlos has about 50 moves (and growing weekly). He enjoys experimenting and trying new moves. Carlos usually rotates his dance moves so it's never a dull moment watching Carlos dance. Carlos the party dancing - it means alot of things.

Does Carlos have names for his dance moves?
While some people have named a few of Carlos' dance moves, Carlos himself doesn't have names for them. Also, Carlos does his own variation of dance moves when it comes to an apparent popular dance move. For example, he doesn't do ' The Worm ' but he does his own dance moves. When Carlos creates a dance move, it is his own, original to him.

Does Carlos like it when people imitate him?
Yes. Carlos enjoys it when someone attempts to imitate or copy him and his dance moves. However, we would like to mention a word of caution here. When watching Carlos, someone may say to themselves "Hey, I can do that" and attempt to copy him. Please realize that he has been dancing for many years. Every person should know the limitations of their own body. Make sure if you want to copy Carlos, go easy at first. It's possible that you could harm or injure yourself if you move in a way that your body is not used to. Obviously, every person is responsible for the decisions they make for themselves and how they decide to move their own body. When attempting to imitate Carlos, please be careful!

Is Carlos willing to dance at other clubs, say in other cities?
Yes. Carlos is considering a dancing tour of clubs in other cities. If you are an owner or manager of a night club that features dancing, and you may be interested in having Carlos appear in your club, feel free to submit your inquiry to our booking department at booking@carlosthepartyguy.com.

If Carlos had a Mission Statement, what would it be?
To entertain people and make them laugh and enjoy life. It makes Carlos feel good inside when he knows that people are having a good time and he's influencing that.

Does Carols like meeting new people?
Yes. Carlos actually thrives on meeting new people. Many people know him already and he is a very friendly person. It's not unusual to see several people approach Carlos and shake his hand or for girls to come up to him and give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Carlos is always making new friends daily.

What about nicknames?
Carlos has had several nicknames over the years. The list of nicknames for him includes "The Disco Kid", "The Disco Man", "The Boogie Man", "The Clapper", "The Dancing Machine", "The Latin Wonder", "The Latin Lover", "The Energizer", "The Electric Shock" and "Carlos The Party Guy". That one just stuck so that's why he's now known as 'Carlos The Party Guy'.

What About His Nickname - ' The Clapper ' ?
Many people know Carlos for his clapping. One thing that is very distinct about his clap is that it's very loud and it has a distinct tone. Someone can be way across the room from where Carlos is and hear his clapping and then say to themselves, "Carlos is in the house" (hearing his clapping), even though they were not aware that he was in the room.

What about different people, different races?
Carlos loves people from all races. If you watch Carlos, on any given evening many people of all races come up to greet him, male and female. He's a friend with them all. He believes in treating all people equal no matter what color their skin is or where they are from.

What opinions do people have about Carlos? How is he perceived?
Most people who know Carlos love him and love being around him. He is very energetic and very positive. Some people who don't know him think he's crazy when they first see him, but soon grow to love him. Some people don't understand him. Carlos is an average guy who loves dancing, who loves people and loves to have a good time.

Does Carlos use drugs?
Some people wonder if Carlos uses drugs. For the record, the energy he has is all his. When he acts goofy or funny, that's just him. He's not 'on' anything. Carlos enjoys making people laugh and has a good time entertaining people. Don't ask us where he gets the energy. If we knew, we could bottle it and make millions. Carlos doesn't use any drugs except for aspirin and those that the doctor prescribes.

Has Carlos ever tried any drugs?
Yes. In the 70's he tried marijuana once but didn't get hooked on it. He didn't like the affect it had on him. As he puts it, it made him 'hot'.

How is Carlos's health now?
Carlos is very healthy even though he had a mild stroke when he was 58 in 1998. Thankfully, he recovered quickly and the stroke didn't affect his mobility and his ability to dance. Carlos is very grateful for that and furthermore, he believes that he is even a better dancer today than when he was younger.

What about drinking and smoking?
Like many people do, Carlos used to smoke around a pack-a-day. He smoked until he was 50 years old. Carlos used to drink until he had his stroke at age 58. Now he doesn't drink or smoke. He might drink a drink once in a great while and maybe have a little wine sometimes on special occasions. About smoking: Carlos says being a smoker doesn't make you cool. it causes bad breath, it will harm your teeth and eventually cause other negative health issues such as lung cancer. Please. don't smoke!

So what does Carlos drink when he's out dancing?
Carlos drinks sodas, juices and mostly water. Often times you will see Carlos carrying around two waters when he's taking a break from dancing.

What advise would Carlos give about health choices?
'If you want to be like Carlos, don't drink, don't smoke, eat healthy food, help people who need help and go dancing!'. When you go out dancing, have a good time and don't let little things bother you!

What advise would Carlos give about driving?
'Be careful all the time, weather it's the holidays or not. You only have one life to live. Don't be dangerous or wreckless with yourself or other's lives. Drive safely and responsibly.

What advise would Carlos give about friendship?
Good friends are hard to find. Your true friends are those who are around you when you have nothing. They accept you for who you are. Go with your heart. Don't listen to other people's opinions about your friends, if you like someone and want them in your life, keep them as your friend no matter what others may say. You know what and whom you like!

What level of education does Carlos have?
Carlos has a grade school education - stopping short of high school. Carlos would advise students to "stay in school" and complete their education!

How does Carlos usually greet people?
With the guys he usually says 'Hey buddy!' and the girls he either says ' Hey baby!', 'Hey little baby' or 'Hey girls!'.

What about love interests, does Carlos have one?
Throughout the years Carlos has had many girlfriends and has even been married. He is currently uninvolved with anyone romantically. He would probably say that dance was his first love. However, when vacationing in Puerto Vallarta in 1987, Carlos met and fell in love with a girl who was born in France but raised in Alberta Canada. He intended to stay in touch with her, giving her his contact information but she never contacted him after the vacation. Carlos thinks about this girl often (who would now be in her 30's) and hopes to see her again someday.

What about Tattoos-Does Carlos have any?
Yes Carlos has a Tattoo of a pirate on his left arm. He got this tattoo when he was 26 years old in 1967 in downtown Portland at a tattoo parlour somewhere near 3rd and Burnside. To view the tattoo, click here.

What is Carlos' attitude about aging and work ?
The general mentality in the world of show business when hiring people is that the breaks mostly seem to go to the young, the beautiful and the strong. For example, Christine Ebersole, star of Broadway's Grey Gardens, almost quit showbiz after working in Hollywood for 14 years when her agent told her she was too old. However, this only caused her to move to New York and become a broadway star. If you have talent, giftings and special abilities, if you are capable and able, if you have a willingness to succeed, Carlos believes that no matter what your age is, you can always follow your calling in life and pursue your dreams.

What is Carlos' take on Wealth and Greed?
Although it takes money to live, people are always attempting to make their lives better by acquiring more and better things for themselves. And there is nothing wrong with that. However, when a person or persons use greed as a motivation to get what they want, and they hurt or harm people in the process, this is not good. Carlos would remind us that ' what goes around, comes around '. Please all you beautiful people around the world, don't let greed motivate you to do the things you do !

What is Carlos' opinion on self improvement and life changes?
If a person decides on their own to make changes in their life to improve their life, Carlos is all for that. However, if a person is pressured by a friend, ralative, co-worker, business associate, etc. to make changes in how they dress or act or in regard to their personality, Carlos is against that. Make sure that you don't change anything about yourself for anybody, no matter what, unless the change you make in yourself is for yourself!

  • Nene Morales from Lima Peru born September 23, 1939 & passed away April 29, 1997.
  • Beba Morales from Lima Peru born April 7, 1937 & passed away January 3rd, 2003. We miss you!
  • Ofelia Montesco (Carita De Cielo) who died in an airplane crash in 1987. She was from Lima, Peru and she was a Mexican movie star!
• Eddie Jones was born on October 23, 1948 and passed on October 27, 2008. Eddie Jones was a good man and a body builder. He was a mentor to kids encouraging them to be a winner, stay in school and stay away from drugs. May God bless you Eddie, my good friend for your wonderful, beautiful friendship.
